Navigating 11+ Entry to Wimbledon High School

Instead of the Reasoning and English written papers, Wimbledon High School will require students to write the ISEB Common Pretest to determine placement in the school. Pupils applying to Year 7 must complete the ISEB exam within September to January, written at their current school. If students are unable to write at their school, WHS will allow them to write on January 9th or January 11th at the WHS facilities.

The ISEB Pretest

This examination covers skills in English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. It typically lasts a total of 2.5 hours, and distributes across the following subjects.

  • English (25 min): comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation

  • Maths (50 min): mathematical ability across the curriculum – arithmetic and problem-solving

  • Verbal Reasoning (~36 min): problem-solving using words

  • Non-Verbal Reasoning (~32 min): thinking with shapes, space, diagrams and pictures
